Frizz Fighters

Summer is in full swing, and the humidity and frizz are as well! Around here, we have some best practices for keeping the frizz at bay.

First off - not all frizz is the same! Some frizz is new growth hair, some is due to texture, and some is from chemical or heat damage.

Like all things, our hair and scalp need a good foundation. In my experience, less is more. Hairstory New Wash is the absolute best cleanser that I have found. Their belief is that we need to get out of the way of our natural processes. Traditionally, our hair gets oily or “dirty” and so we wash, the detergents strip moisture, color, and yes oil from our hair and scalp. Then we condition for softness, shine and manageability. This is putting oil back in the hair, then we add serums, and yes… more oil. Why the heck are we stripping it all away in the first place? Enter New Wash - this aloe based formula cleans the dirt and grime, without stripping the essential moisture. After a month of New Wash, your hair will be transformed! Our clients have reported : less frizz, thicker hair, better curls, less flaking, less irritation, more volume, more drape to hair.

Next, air drying is best! Braids, buns, or use a t-shirt and turban it up! If you need more volume, try a texture spray, if you need more control, try a balm.

My favorite texture sprays are Hairstory Undressed, or Cult and King Set Spray. For a balm, the Hairstory Hair Balm, Cult and King Style or Balm.

If you’re going to use heat, make sure to use a heat protectant, and get it allllll the way dry, and finish by going over with cool air.

Keune makes amazing styling products that have heat protection built in. The Blowout Gelee for volume and control, or straight cream for sleek and smooth.

Finally, brushing! A shine, cushion brush from the scalp through the ends, at least twice a week, best nightly. This helps break up and move the oil from the scalp, and distribute it through the ends. Honestly, brushing was the biggest game changer for me. At night, I have a ritual where I brush scalp to ends throughout, then pony tail and brush, brush, brush the ends. The more I brush, the shinier they get! I spray some Tonik on my scalp, and Undressed throughout, then twist up into a bun or two or three, and sleep on it. The next morning my hair is shiny, bouncy, and good to go another day!

Give these a try!
